Handy and helpful Hints
from Joyce Gray, Overseas Service
Chairman
1.
General
It is recommended that I visit your club to speak about Overseas Service
matters once in my three years in office. However, I do enjoy supporting your
charity events as a member of Inner Wheel so please let have any details in
advance on Tel: 01923 263213 or e-mail: rejoyce@btinternet.com
Rotarian
Bob may be able to collect oversized items such as beds and bikes. His telephone
number is 01604 – 492467. However,
please do not ask him to collect anything, which could be taken to a District
Meeting. He will normally be at all
District Meetings with his van, BUT NOT at the Rally in October
or the Overseas Lunch in May. It
is helpful to indicate on a label what is inside the bags or boxes.
He
takes most things, but food should be dried or tinned and not milk or meat or
Baked beans?
Bob
Parfitt also has outlets for the following "Bundles
and Bags":
Baby Bundles: For
babies 1 to 12 months. For a mother with nothing for her baby a Baby Bundle is
a wonderful gift.
Toy Bags: His or Her
Toy Bag could well be a child's only possession - 3 to 12 years.
Joy Bags: Our
aim is to send something "extra special" as a small treat for the
ladies of the third world.
Roy Bags: We can't
leave out the men, they like to have a treat like anyone else, so something
special for them too.
Storage
of goods for Bob (NOT FOOD) or School – Aid may be taken to Dell’s Removals
in Berkhamsted. Give Carol Dell a
ring on 01442 863959, but you will have to get them there. Please label clearly
which charity the goods are for.
NB.
He is also collecting items for schools and a hospital in Gambia.
3.
Items for School-Aid
If
you have items for School – Aid that are not taken to a district meeting, then
small amounts should be taken to the School Aid warehouse direct at: The
Hammer and Harp Farm, Wapseys Lane, Hedgerley Green, Nr Beaconsfield. Bucks. SL2
3XJ
If
you have an “ENTERTAINER” Toyshop, goods can be taken there and they will
transport them to their warehouse for our collection. There is one at Milton
Keynes and Stevenage.
Large
items or where there is a large quantity to justify using a van for collection
this can be arranged with School – Aid Transport. However the items should
justify the cost of travel.
If
you have items, please contact Martha Ware, School Aid Warehouse Manager on 01753
883853 on Wednesdays and Thursday to
avoid wasted journeys.
Please
collect used stamps again
– The sale of which helps to fund the organisation LEPRA.
Toner
Photocopier and Printer Cartridges – These
have been a valuable source of income over the past few years. Bring them to
District Meetings but not the Rally or Overseas Lunch
Knitting
– Please keep knitting blankets, baby clothes, hats and gloves.
5.
Contacts
If you have a member with
special Skills or contacts please let us know.
6.
Overseas Roundup
In November you will
receive an Overseas Roundup form to fill in.
Please keep a tally of how many stamps (in Kilos) you collect, how many
blankets knitted etc. Also what you have collected for Bob or School – Aid.
Please include ONLY the
amount raised for OVERSEAS Charities you have supported. It may be an advantage
to keep a running total so that items are not missed when the report is
required.
7.
Cheques for Charities
Cheques for District
Overseas Charities should be paid to 'District 26' with the name of the Charity
on the back, and sent to District Treasurer Judy Dick.
8.
Communication
Please take your folder
to all club and district meetings and refer to it if in doubt.
