Message from the District Overseas Chairman, Joyce Gray for 2009-10

Hello,

My name is Joyce Gray and I am now in third year as Overseas Service Chairman for 2009/10 and am greatly looking forward to it.

I have been a member of Watford North Inner Wheel for 16 years having held all three officers posts.

As District Overseas Service Chairman, two worthy charities have been supported -.Wheelchair Foundation and Children of Sumatra.

District 26 Overseas Service Charity

When I came into this job I promised myself I would support  women's charities. It has taken me to my third year to achieve this.

As a women only organisation, I feel it fitting that we should choose to support other women in the world who are in need.

 Women for Women International Logo

The Charity 'Women for Women' International is an organisation who have taken on this role.

These are women who have been caught up in war torn areas and have been targeted for violence. They are raped and their lives are shattered. By supporting this charity we can help to rebuild lives of these women and give them back some respect.

One of my other charities is Kenya Children Centres which aims to bring hope to shattered lives.  I am doing a charity cycle ride in Kenya to support this charity and will go out on 21 Nov 2009 and cycle for five days and hoping to raise £2,500.

Another project which I would like to support is 'Feed the Children' Shoe Boxes.

Click here for: their main website, or for details of shoe box project or for a leaflet on the shoebox.

Other on-going projects which we generally support are: School Aid – Water Aid - Postage Stamps – Ink cartridges and Bob Parfitt's Refugee Relief.

My thanks go to all members of District 26 for all the work they have put in these past two years to raise funds for Overseas charities.

In Friendship
Joyce Gray
