Message from the District Chairman 2007-08, Emmeline Lambert:

Hello Everyone!

My last comment on this website was to wish you a Happy New Year, and now it is already Easter. Where has the time gone I wonder?

Since the beginning of 2008 I have had the great pleasure of visiting more Clubs in the District, attending and enjoying a number of social functions, two 60th Charter celebrations – Welwyn Garden City, and Leighton Buzzard Clubs. There are two more to come – Chesham, and Aylesbury Clubs.

It is quite awe-inspiring to consider how many people have served our District since it was separated from District 9 twenty-three years ago. The hours of fun, friendship and commitment are as numerous as the grains of sand on a beach.

In addition to the support we gave to the Rotary Disaster Response project last year The Clubs in this District have raised over £31,000 for home and local charities - far too many to list here. I have been amazed at the innovative ideas that keep springing up.

On Easter Saturday (22nd March) we took part in the Rotary Easter Showcase in the Middleton Hall at Milton Keynes Shopping Centre. Immediate Past District Chairman, Sandra Maizels, took responsibility for organising the activities for children at our Stand, which was right in the centre of the Hall. It was a tremendously exciting day with members of the District Executive, Liz Tarsey (Dunstable Club) with her mobile crèche, and ladies of Wolverton Club helping with the activities. We also packed a total of 104 bags of emergency toiletries (both for men and women) to be sent wherever they are needed at home or overseas.

We hope that many more people will have learnt a good deal about our Family of Rotary and will spread the word.

Overseas Service Chairman, Joyce Gray, is doing well with raising funds for the Wheelchair Foundation, and I now have a project to support for the Railway Children – details of which can be found on the District Project page.

At the time of writing this I am looking forward to attending Rotary District 1260’s Annual Conference in Bournemouth(28th-30th March), the Inner Wheel Association’s Conference in Blackpool (7th-9th April), I/W District 3 Rally in May, and a few more I/W events before I hand over to my successor.

For now, I will close by wishing you all the best and look forward to the warmer days of spring and summer.

Emmeline

Archived message from the District Chairman, Emmeline Lambert, Dec 2007

It’s hard to believe that I am just about halfway through my year in office and it’s nearly Christmas!

So far I have had great pleasure in visiting over half of the Clubs in the District and have been truly amazed at the many and varied ways in which members are carrying out our IIW Theme this year. Celebrations were held in the Dunstable Club when a second member (Joyce Gossling) received recognition for 50years membership of that Club, and three members in the Ware Club celebrated 40, 50, and 60 years of marriage all in the same month!

We held a very happy and successful Rally in October when Association President Audrey Pollard came to address the members. At our November District Committee Meeting we had a very interesting and moving presentation by David Maidment, Chairman and Founder of the charity Railway Children. For further information please visit their website: www.railwaychildren.org.uk

Plans are going ahead for two tea parties and a Crafts/Hobbies day next year. Dates and further information will be posted on this website as and when they are available.

We are looking forward to joining up with our Rotary District (1260) in their Easter Showcase to be held in the Middleton Hall at Milton Keynes on Easter Saturday next year, when we shall be letting people know what Inner Wheel is, and what Inner Wheel does. So those of you who are reading this please come along and meet us in Milton Keynes on Saturday 22nd March 2008.

May you have a healthy and happy time over the festive period and may 2008 bring us all a peaceful and prosperous New Year. Seasons Greetings to you all.
