Inner Wheel District 26
Covering three counties in the UK -
Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire

IW Today

We have our own national conference every year, back to back with RIBI’s conference where our Association's President addresses Rotary. Our District Chairman is invited as a guest to the Rotary District Conference and usually takes an active part in the proceedings.

Membership has been extended from wives of Rotarians to include any female member of a Rotarian’s family, including the more complicated relationships which stem from our modern society. Although there are now female Rotarians, men are not admitted. In many countries where it is a male-dominated society, I.W. and similar women’s organisations are the only way a woman can make her voice heard.

Meetings are usually held once a month, and take the form of a business meeting with an agenda, often preceded by a meal, or followed by tea, and sometimes with a speaker.  In addition, social events are organised either for fundraising or fellowship.   If someone wishes to join Inner Wheel but the Rotary Club does not have one, she may join another club nearby.

The name of the founder, Margarette Golding, is given to Inner Wheel’s only award for outstanding personal service.

There are three District Committee Meetings during the year, plus an A.G.M. and the Assembly, in a central location and District Executive Meetings are held at Tilsworth. We have our own District magazine, and National and International magazines. The District Chairman will visit each of the clubs in her district during her year of office, and the Association President will attend a rally in all twenty nine Districts in the country during her year.

District officials are invited to the more important occasions of their link districts, in our case, Districts 9 (Bucks, Berks and Oxon) and 3 (Northumberland and Durham), and often 13 (Greater London) as well. Not every Rotary club has its own Inner Wheel and it is difficult for these clubs to appreciate what our organisation has to offer and the historical links which bind us.
